Let’s Talk About Beads! Nib-Bits

What is a Nib-Bit anyway? It sounds more like a snack food!

Nib-bits are a type of two hole bead made by Matubo and when I first saw them I thought, Nah… I’ll never use that. Most two hole beads are pretty funky, but these in particular reminded me of candy corn which turned me away from wanting to bead with them at all.

…And then I found a pattern I really wanted to try that used Nib-Bits. So I of course relented and bought a bag of them from the shop to try. As soon as I finished my first one, I was hooked. I love Nib-Bits!!

It’s unfortunate that patterns for shaped beads has been on the decline since beading magazines have stopped printing. Even though I was hesitant at first to try them, I have found two hole beads to be both fun and useful They’re great for beginners who want to experiment. The shape of a Nib-Bit in particular form a natural setting for a rivoli, meaning it’s very easy to make very shiny earring and bracelet components.

I also found out that because of how they’re shaped, Nib-Bits will make beaded beads that do not require a wood or acrylic core! If you’ve ever met me, you know how much I love beaded beads. They’re my favorite!

If you ever find a Nib-Bit pattern you want to try, I whole heartedly encourage you to give these wacky little beads chance. They won’t disappoint.
